ELO mandatory: Are you ready ?

Important Update for Freight Transport between Continental Europe and the United Kingdom

There is an important change for all freight customers operating between continental Europe and the United Kingdom:

The French customs authorities are introducing the mandatory use of the ELO (Enveloppe Logistique Obligatoire). This requirement will become effective on April 20, 2026.

This regulation applies to all transports crossing the English Channel—regardless of whether the shipment is carried by ferry or via the Eurotunnel.

What does this mean for your transports?

As of April 20, 2026:

  • No border crossing without a valid ELO
  • Vehicles without a properly created ELO will be stopped at so-called pit stops
  • Further travel towards the port or terminal will not be permitted in such cases

The regulation applies to:

  • Transports to and from the United Kingdom
  • Ferry and Eurotunnel traffic
  • Loaded and empty vehicles
  • Shipments requiring an ENS (filed via ICS2)

Our recommendation:

Please contact your customs agents in good time to avoid delays at the ports.

We will be happy to assist you and provide up-to-date quotes for your transport routes to and from the United Kingdom.
