New GMR Requirements for Freight Transport to Northern Ireland
For freight shipments to Northern Ireland, a valid Goods Movement Reference (GMR) is required for shipments via ports that use the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS).
The GMR must be generated before departure or check-in and must accurately consolidate the relevant customs and cargo information. Without a valid GMR, clearance or loading of the vehicle may be denied.
Among other things, this affects GVMS services via Belfast, Larne, and Warrenpoint, depending on the respective shipping company.
Important for freight forwarders and drivers: Please ensure that the GMR has been prepared before arrival at the port and that all information matches the transport and customs documents. This will help avoid unnecessary delays during clearance.
