Smyril Line strengthens North Atlantic freight network with new RoRo vessel Skipanes

Smyril Line is expanding its fleet in the North Atlantic: With the Skipanes, a new RoRo cargo vessel is joining the company’s network for freight transport between Europe, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. The modern vessel has been specifically designed for the demanding conditions of North Atlantic operations and provides additional capacity for freight transport.

The Skipanes is approximately 190 metres long and offers 3,300 lane metres for trailers. The vessel is therefore particularly suited to the transport of trucks and trailers. Its design is geared towards year-round operation in the North Atlantic and takes into account the specific requirements of the routes between Europe, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

Smyril Line is also focusing on modern technologies in terms of sustainability. The Skipanes is equipped with a battery system and prepared for shore power. The vessel is also designed to be ready for future operation on e-methanol.

More capacity for freight transport

With the new Skipanes, Smyril Line is further expanding its capacity in RoRo freight transport. Reliable shipping connections are particularly important for the movement of goods between mainland Europe, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

The connections run via Hirtshals in Denmark, linking mainland Europe with Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands and Seyðisfjörður in Iceland. Depending on the transport requirements, suitable ferry connections and individual rates can be requested.
